tentang Tales of the Ages

this is actually a reply to Rique's question. i realized what i wrote was way too long so i decided to post it as a blog post. (im being lazy so i copy-paste the whole thing i wrote)

hey i think i've seen that teaser before! dunno when but must've followed a link from some forum. neway..

i think it looks awesome. love the characters, love the colours, and especially love the editing. i don't think malaysia have a nice proper editing work like that in our animations. maybe u guys can be the first, congrats!

but the characters look a bit awkward when they walk/run (0:21 in the video especially). i suspect the kain batik causing some rigging or animating limitations. but maybe it's just me.

another thing that could improve the looks of both environment and character models.. normal maps. i think some of the 3D models could use a little bit more detailing (ie on the monster and rock cliff's models, in Timun Mas). but yeah.. it could be time consuming.

having said all that.. the videos are teasers after all. so maybe the full shorts will look heaps better? so.. will it be aired on tv or what? seriously, i am extremely curious about TOTA now.

lol im ranting. this reply should be a new blog post :P. neway thanks for ur comment Rique. best of luck to glue studios and hope to see ur works on tv or cinema soon! .. and perhaps break this lescopaque/animosta dominance in our animation industry before they become too big

revealed their new IP yesterday, a beautifully rendered and designed..

Pada Zaman Dahulu (Once Upon A Time) is a 3d animated series that brings to life the Malaysian folk stories of a clever mousedeer, Sang Kancil and other jungle creatures. Their fantastic adventures are told by a grandfather to his city-based grandchildren. Aris and Ara are sent to live with their grandparents, Aki and Wan, in the village when their parents have to go overseas. Every day Aki would tell them stories about Sang Kancil to entertain as well as to impart wisdom and advice on how to become responsible individuals.

today they revealed more about their new gem and provided us with this cute sneak peek video

i have to say, i am super excited with this announcement. a proper and significant progress for Les'Copaque. and honestly, to me, i think it's definitely a significant progress in our animation industry. congrats Les'Copaque!!

there is a Sang Kancil animation (series?) in the making (or is it done i am not sure) by aniotek. i cant remember exactly what it is.. if anyone can shed some light about this issue i'd be grateful. but i do wonder how they'll feel about this development in our animation industry. if it was me i'd feel threatened.

i do hope more local companies will speed up their production and air their animation series. i've seen lots of em online but have not seen them made their way on tv. it's tough i know.. but it seems doable. like LCP and Animonsta have done. and i little bit of me wish that someday i too can produce an animation tv series ^^

tentang Independent Anime Short

i saw this anime short story by Hiroyasu Ishida (or Tete) and thought it is an awesome Indie Anime. and considering this anime is practically made by one student (independently directed, animated, edited, and recorded.).. that just blew me away. yes he did got some help but still.. it's not a company or something. just a student work.. an awesome student work!

tentang Upin&Ipin on Disney Channel

most malaysian would by now at least heard of the name Upin & Ipin. the animation about the twins Upin and Ipin, product of Les'Copaque Production. in my opinion, 'U&I' have been a huge success for LCP and the malaysian animation industry. not many local animation and cartoon managed to reach the kind of success and popularity they did.

Upin & Ipin even have their own wikipedia page!

maybe past locally made cartoons that is as famous as Upin&Ipin is probably (quality aside) Keluangman and Sang Kancil. there may be some other titles that is as famous but this is just the names i can think of right now. Kampung Boy animation is the idea of Dato' Lat but not produced locally.


last week (Nov 6, 2009) Les'Copaque Production posted on their blog that Upin&Ipin will be premiere on Disney Channel (asia) on 23rd November 2009. that is next monday, at 3.30pm in Malaysia AND the Philippines.

tentang New Animation Company - Animonsta Studios

here's a Malaysian animation industry news. haven't written anything about that for a while now have i?



remember 'Upin&Ipin' and 'Geng: Pengembaraan Bermula' ('Geng : The Adventure Begins')? well the people who were behind those animations are now working on a new project entitled 'BoBoiBoy'.. a story about a group of superhero kids lead(?) by BoBoiBoy. sounds interesting.. and a lot of fun!



BoBoiBoy is the first project (according to utusan.com.my) by new company Animonsta Studios. although the company is new, they are a actually former LCPians who now are trying to make their very own brand of animation. the head of Animonsta Studios, Mohd Nizam is the director of Malaysian hit tv series 'Upin&Ipin' and movie 'Geng: Pengembaraan Bermula'.

this development in Malaysia's animation industry is be a very good indication of improvement and growth. although our animation industry were born a long time ago (believe it or not) in the 80s (the Sang Kancil series by Hassan Mutalib) and some say that we have a pretty strong industry, i beg to differ. we still have a long way to go. what we need now is better quality.. not just quantity.

at the moment, BoBoiBoy is still in pre-production (planning, storyboarding, character deginging.. that sort of stuff). so the designs could change in the future.. maybe. so to local animation fans watch out for the animation and if i get any new news i'll try to keep everyone updated.

tentang Ponyo (English)(2009)

normally i hate re-dubs. i always prefer to read subtitles. i think when a film/movie/video/whatever is translated, there's something missing. the acting and the dialogue sometimes dont match and kinda feels weird. but that's just my opinion.. i'll post the English trailer here as well.

Ponyo is about this fish girl thing who runs away from her home and was rescued by a boy who vowed to protect her forever.

John Lassater (Toy Story, Cars, and basically producer of all Pixar's animated films) is the executive producer of Ponyo (English version) and the film stars Cate Blanchett, Noah Cyrus, Matt Damon, Tina Fey and Frankie Jonas.

rasenye by now dah ramai tau pasal animation Geng : Pengembaraan Bermula. esok 12/2/2009 dia nye premiere kat wayang2 M'sia. aku kenal la gak diorang2 ni.. seme2 hardworking n optimist.

dulu mase start2 ramai yg cam tak pecaya la dgn kompeni Les'Copaque ni sebab diorang muda2 n kompeni pun muda. mase tu susah gile nak dapat sapot. kalau dengar cite sejarah penubuhan diorang ni memang aku kategorikan as inspiring la.

jadiknye.. kalau korang ade masa dalam minggu first release cite Geng ni.. pegi la kat wayang tengok cite ni ek. tunjukkan sapot korang pada local production n kompeni yg bukan mainstream.

lepas 1st week dah tak kira opening week dah.. n lepas tu option pirated cd/dvd/r*share/m*upload n segala macam lagi cara (kata lainnye mencuri/merompak) yang merugikan Les'Copaque ni dah almost surely ade. jadiknye pegilah kat wayang terdekat n penuhkan la seat ye.. n dont forget to have a good time

hmm.. aku tengah play around dengan texture model ni. tambah specular supaya boot ngan glove dia nampak berkilat dan osem. tak sure cukup tak detail yg timbul bile aku buat camni. so aku buat 2 version..

character - Niko

superspy turns into vigilante crimefighter/intergalactic superhero when his cat is tortured and murdered by street gangs just for fun. he is Niko! saving people and cats from evil-doers across the universe!!!

satu masa dulu aku tergerak la nak buat blog pasal animation yang aku telah n sedang work on. tapi since that i am not a fan of uploading and mentayangkan kerja2 aku yang semi-pro tu maka terbantutlah perkembangan blog pasal animation aku. so now after 12 posts dalam masa 2 tahun (pathetic bukan?) aku decided to shut down that blog.
